THE SELF-GUIDED POPSPOTS TOUR ACROSS CENTRAL PARK AT 72ND STREET.

"WALK IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LEGENDS"

Location: Start in front of the Dakota building at 72nd Street and Central Park West.

The tour basically cuts across the park parallel to 72nd Street and ends up at 72nd Street and FIfth Ave.

The front of the Dakota. 72nd Street and Central Park West.

The entrance.

Here's an old photo of The Dakota.

It is New York folklore that the Dakota got its name because it was so Isolated - like it was metaphorically in the desolate Dakota Territory compared to the rest of Manhattan. But as this picture shows, even 73rd Street was already built all the way to the park. And the Broadway subway line was runing all the way up the Upper West Side.

The man who built the building, Edward Clark, just liked Western names and built another building called the Wyoming at 55th and 7th that same year. He also wanted to call Central Park West "Montana Avenue."

(Beside, think of the logic, if you built a building in an isolated area, and wanted to attract buyers, would you name it "Siberia"?)

Mia Farrow out front while filming "Rosemary's Baby," which came out in 1968.

John Cassavetes and Mia Farrow inside the Dakota entrance, with 72nd Street behind them.

From the front of the Dakota walk to the corner of Central Park West.

Now walk across the street to the park entrance. Then turn and look back to the Dakota.

The Lennon's apartment was on the 7th Floor. in the red box.

John on the roof.

John on the roof. Notice the iron fence in both pictures.

Lennon looks out a rooftop office window.

(photo: Brian Hamill)

The location of that window is in the red circle.

John Lennon posing for picture in a Dakota Window.

This is probably the window as it has no iron railing outside it

Here's a picture of Yoko from the WALKING ON THIN ICE video.

It's likely the same room where Yoko took this album over photo of John's bloodied glasses.

This was Yoko taking the photo.

Some other famous people who lived in the Dakota Were: Lauren Bacall, Leonard Bernstein, Judy Garland, Boris Karloff, John Madden, Joe Namath, and Rudolf Nureyev.

Before we visit Strawberry Fields, nearby. I want to show you another photo taken here. Bruce Springsteen.

(photo: Danny Clinch)

It was for his recent album: LETTER TO YOU.

(photo: Danny Clinch)

One last thing I want to point out. The building off to the left of the Dakota is called THE MAJESTIC. in the 1940's many mafia leaders lied there including: Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky, and Frank Costello. In 1957 Vinnie The Chin Gigante tried to assassinate Frank Costello in the lobby. Some of the bullet marks are still there. Conan O'brien and Milton Berle used to live their too. Mark Jacobs, the fashion designer, grew up in the building also.

There's a bridal path under where we are standing.

Edward Hopper painted it in 1939. You can see the Dakota in the back of the painting.

Now let's follow the path into to the park to the area known as Strawberry Fields. It's straight ahead and to the left.

Here's the path. The circular Imagine mosaic dedicated to John Lennon is just in about 50 feet.

Getting closer . . .

Here is the mosaic. Many people take photos here. You can stand on the mosaic if you want. Some people lie down on it for photos. Often people will be playing Beatles songs for tips on the benches.

The IMAGINE MOSAIC was donated and made by the citizens of Naples, Italy. The surrounding park is called Strawbery Fields and has strawberries planted in it.

Yoko with Sean on the mosaic.

Now walk own the path further into the park.

Partway down the path, this plaque mentions all the countries that sent plants to Strawberry Fields.

Continue down the path.

Be sure to watch out for people on bikes when you get to the park roadway at the bottom. They drive fast. There will be a light for you to cross with.

After you cross the road, you'll see a large statue of Daniel Webster to the left. He was a famous American statesman who lived from from about American Revolution until the Civil War. He wasn't the Webster of Webster's dictionary.

The designers of the park thought it was too big for the area around the mall, where most of the others statues are, so they placed it here.

This is what the are looked like when they first put it up - in a stereoscopic view.

This is a photo of this intersection from 1896. In that era, rich people with carriages would come up here and try to race each other. The designers of the park made all the streets curvy so they could not go fast and either run into people or flip over.

Here's an 1875 map of Central Park. Note all the curvy roads. There were separate paths for pedestrians, people in buggies, and bridal paths for people on horseback. There's only one straightaway - next to the reservoir, which was kind of forced upon the design.

At one time they used camels from the Zoo to help cut the lawn

Walk past the information booth. You can get a free map of Central Park here if you like.

Just past the info booth, LOOK down this path to the left.

This is where a candid shot of John and Yoko filming the video for the song STARTING OVER from the DOUBLE FANTASY album on November 26, 1980 took place.

(center photo by Allen Tannenbaum)

Continue along the parth toward the center of the park and take the first left next to a road that goes up to a fountan.

This is the fountain. Horses used to drink from the fountain in the old days.

The Fountain was the site of a photo shoot for the cover of JOE BATAAN's album THE SAINT LATIN'S DAY MASSACRE. JOE BATAAN is a jazz player from Spanish Harlem. They play mostly Latin dance songs, sung in Spanish.

The path we are to follow goes down to the left.

It was on top of this path that The Dave Clark 5 in 1964, was evidently feeling "GLAD ALL OVER" for this picture. . . . Among their other hits were: BITS AND PIECES, CAN'T YOU SEE THAT SHE'S MINE, CATCH US IF YOU CAN, DO YOU LOVE ME, ANY WAY YOU WANT IT, and I LIKE IT LIKE THAT.

If you look to the right you will see a large rock on the hillside which is called Cherry Hill. This is a publicity picture of The Dave Clark 5 "rockin'" out. (pun intended!)

The PopSpot of that. 1964.

In the distance, Jerry Seinfeld's real life apartment is circled in red at the Beresford on the 19th floor. On the TV show Jerry lived at 129 West 81st - a block away.

Now go down the path to the lake. Bow Bridge is in the distance.

Stop next to the first bench.

Next to the Lake, on the first bench, is where John and Yoko were photographed for the MILK AND HONEY album which came out in 1984.

(photo: Kishin Shinoyama)

Here's a close-up.

(photo: Kishin Shinoyama)

In 1980, John and Yoko stood here during a photo session for DOUBLE FANTASY in November, 1980, two weeks before his death. You can see Bow Bridge behind them.

(center photo: Allen Tannenbaum)

Out in the lake, Here's WOODY ALLEN and DIANE KEATON in a scene from the 1977 film ANNIE HALL. Note the Island - still there - behind them.

Here's a scene from NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM with Ben Stiller filmed along this path.

Here's what this used to look like over 100 years ago.

Billy Joel and his band THE HASSLES posed next to this tree sometime between 1964 and 1969. I think Billy is the guy on top.

Here's another rock group from the 60's: MITCH RYDER AND THE DETROIT WHEELS. Their hits included: JENNY TAKE A RIDE, DEVIL WITH THE BLUE DRESS, and SOCK IT TO ME.and

Here's Mitch Rhyder and the Detroit Wheels taken the same day, just over the bridge by the water. The Dakota is at back left.

This is Bow Bridge in Fall. It's the most photographed bridge in the park. It's named after the bow in bow and arrow. It's one of 6 cast iron bridges in the park. By using cast iron they could make it low to the ground so as to fit into the landscape.

The lake is entirely man-made and fed by pipes. The water level can be lowered in the summer to make it easier for boats to go under.

(photo: Christopher Arndt)

Chief Great Fire Patrolling Lake in Canoe. . . . (Original Caption) "So-Taien-O-Wa-Ne" or Chief Great Fire of the Iroquois, is now the general custodian and guardian around Central Park Lake. He will glide hither and yon in his light canoe painted red and will undoubtedly give the lake quite a bit of color in his buckskins. He has been appointed by Parks Commissioner F.D. Gallatin and will be on duty daily. Chief Great Fire has lived for some years in Brooklyn, though born on an Indian reservation near Montreal, Canada.

Go up onto the bridge and stop just after the second flowerpot on the left.

Here's Yoko Ono standing right there.

And here's the PopSpot of that.

Inner photo by Allen Tannenbaum

Yoko is standing where this famous photo of people skating on the Lake was taken. The Dakota is in the background.

Here's a PopSpot of that.

This famous Currier and Ives painting was done in 1862. The Bow Bridge is in back. Skating was a huge fad in the early days of the park, partly because women could skate away from their parents and meet boys on skates. It was also, except for the skates, a free activity that the whole families, rich or poor, could enjoy.

Many movies have been filmed on the bridge. This is CAFE SOCIETY by Woody Allen with Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart. (2016)

Here's Woody directing Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart..

This is BRITTANY MURPHY in UPTOWN GIRLS from 2003.

Here's PATRICK DEMPSEY and MICHELLE MONAGHAN from MADE OF HONOR from 2008.

KIRSTEN DUNST and TOBY McGUIRE in SPIDERMAN 3 from 2007.

Here's TOBY McGUIRE from that scene.

This is HUGH QUARSHI and CHRIS LAMBERT from HIGHLANDER from 1986.

Here, from a DR. WHO episode is MATT SMITH and KAREN GILLAN (circa 2010).

Here's RICHARD GERE looking down at WINONA RYDER in AUTUMN IN NEW YORK from 2000.

Here's PETER O'TOOLE and MARK LINN-BAKER in MY FAVORITE YEAR from 1982.

Here's the bridge, in the center of the picture, as seen from Woody Allen's apartment in the movie MANHATTAN. (1979)

We're now going to head to Bethesda Fountain which is pretty much the heart of the park.

So turn around and walk back down the bridge that you just walked up and take the path to the left.

As we pass a lamp pole, I want to show you a little secret as to how to tell where you are in the park.

Every lamp pole in the park has a small code on it. In the photo it's 6136. The first two letters tell you the closest cross street you are on in Manhattans grid. So in this example, we are on 61st Street. The second two numbers tell you which side of the park you are on, East or West. Odd numbers are West. Even numbers are East. So the lamppole in the picture, with 36, as its last letters is on the East side of the park.

Continue on down the path. You will see the Boathouse in the distance and the Bethesda Fountain ahead.

Before you enter the fountain area look at the path up to the right. Specifically look at the stairs at the top.

This is TOMMY JAMES of TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS at the top of the stairs in 1967. Their hits included: CRIMSON AND CLOVER; MONY, MONY; HANKY PANKY; I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW; CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION and DRAGGIN' THE LINE.

The Popspot of Tommy James.

Now enter the fountain area.

The statue that's the center of Bethesda Fountain is called ANGEL OF THE WATER. It's a celebration of the aqueduct from the Croton Reservoir upstate that brought clean water to Manhattan in 1842. The statue was created by a woman named Emma Stebbins in the 1868. She is stepping on a rock with a lily in her hand.

The statue refers to a Bible story about the healing powers of a pool in Bethesda.. The statue was the backdrop for a major scene in Tony Kushner's AIDS-themed play Angels in America where it represents the theme of hope. . . .

The fountain is in many films. Here it is in GODSPELL in 1973. In this scene they were singing "Prepare Ye." The hit song from Godspell was "Day by Day."

And here's another from Godspell.

When I searched for where this RASCALS album cover was taken, I could not figure out how they could be so close to the top of the columns.

It turned out they were in the middle of the statue.

The scene from ENCHANTED (2007) where Amy Adams sings "That's How you Know" was filmed on location here.

Here's Patrick Dempsey looking on.

Now here's MATTHEW PERRY sitting nearby in 1997's FOOL'S RUSH IN.

Now turn and walk across the Terrace to the columned area between the steps known as the Arcade.

Here we are a little closer.

Now as we approach the Arcade, you'll probably recognize this photo: McCAULEY CUKIN playing KEVIN from HOME ALONE 2 in 1992.

Here's the PopSpot of that

Also in this spot, here's a scene from ONE FINE DAY (1996) with Michele Pfeiffer and George Clooney

If we look at the columns, here's LITTLE STEVEN who has been BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S sidekick for many years as well as being Silvio in THE SOPRANOS.

Here's his whole band - THE DISCIPLES OF SOUL

Remember the movie RANSOM starring Mel Gibson? Here's Donnie Wahlberg on the steps about to kidnap Brawley Nolte (Nick Nolte's son in real life) who's looking up. (1996)

Now, look over to the left staircase.

Here is the group the TRADE WINDS in 1965. They had a hit that year with "New York's a Lonely Town," which continued with the lyrics "When you're the only surfer boy around."

And right in front of them - amongst the birds - was the cover for a jazz album by DONALD BYRD from 1960. Get it - birds?

Here's a close up.

Here's another shot without the album.

Here they are cleaning and recarving the balustrades in 1983.

New we are going into what is called the ARCADE. There is a road across the park that crosses above this. The ceiling is famous for being composed of MINTON TILES - a special tile from England that is not painted like regular tiles, but rather the designs are about 1/8th of an inch thick and hand pressed. Most were refurbished in 1983.

Here's a closer view of the Minton Tiles.

Now as we come to the stairs, look off to the right,

On our right is where the cover for a BEAU BRUMMELS album was taken. They were a San Francisco band that had a 1965 hit called LAUGH, LAUGH.

Here's a close-up of it.

As we come out on the other side, this is a scene from MR. DEEDS with ADAM SANDLER that was filmed here on the steps. The 2002 movie also featured Winona Ryder.

Now we'll walk up the steps to the top. There are bathrooms on both sides on the middle platform.

A picture of these steps was used as the "bump" between segments on Saturday Night Live for several years.

Once we get to the top of the steps and look down, we can see THE YOUNG RASCALS from about a 1965 photo shoot. Their big hits in the mid-60's were: GOOD LOVIN'; I AIN'T GONNE EAT OUT MY HEART ANYMORE; GROOVIN'; and IT'S A BEAUTIFUL MORNIN." I

Now look areound the column to your right as you look down the steps.. The YOUNG RASCALS shot a 45 cover here. Here's a PopSpot of it.

Here's a close up of the record cover.

Now walk to the column at the other side of the top of the steps. On the front side is a cool looking OWL and a BAT.

And around the corner is a HALLOWEEN WITCH ON A BROOM-STICK above a JACK-O-LANTERN.

Now, off to the left you can see a path near a sculpture. THis is where the movie poster for WHEN HARRY MET SALLY was taken. The 1989 film starred MEG RYAN and BILLY CRYSTAL.

Walk now toward the Naumberg Bandshell as pictured in he far left.

You'll pass the benches where STEVE MARTIN spoke to CHARLES GRODIN in the film THE LONELY GUY from 1984.

Here they are.

Now we will come to the Naumbeg which has a long history of musical performances and photoshoots.

This was an album cover for a DAVID-CLAYTON THOMAS' album from 1972. While he was lead singer in the band BLOOD, SWEAT, and TEARS their hits included "Spinning Wheel," "You Made Me So Very Happy," and "And When I Die." You can see him on the stage.

Another album cover shot next to the stage was THE BEST OF HERMAN'S HERMITS from 1965.

Here's a close up. Their big 1965 hits were: I'M HENRY THE EIGHTH, I AM and MRS. BROWN (YOU'VE GOT A LOVELY DAUGHTER.)

John lennon also filmed on this stage for his video for the song MIND GAMES in 1973.

In the video, he begins at the mall, a few yards away and walks toward the bandshell.

Here's a close-up of that.

Then he came on stage and did some fake tap dancing.

And he cut to an image of himself clapping at his dancing.

A lot of rock concerts were held here in the sixties. Here's the Jefferson Airplane in 1968 or 1969.

And here's the Grateful Dead. Also from 1968 or 1969.

Here's the scene from their point of view.

Here's Joan Baez at an anti-Vietnam War rally in 1969.

Some of you might remember a scene from the 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany's when George Peppard talks to Buddy Epsen, who he finds out is married to Audrey Hepburn. They met here.

Here's another view.

WALTER MATTEAU and OZZIE DAVID were here in the movie I'M NOT RAPPOPORT from 1996.

Now we're going walk a few yards to the beginning of the Mall - the long straight promenade in the park. Many films were shot here because of the space it gives filmmakers and the long bucolic background.

ThIs is Brie Larson and Amy Schuser from TRAINWRECK in 2015.

JUSTIN TIBMERLAKE and MILA KUNIS from FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS in 2011

RUSSELL BRAND and JONAH HILL from GET ME TO THE GREEK (2010)

JON STEWART AND ADAM SANDLER from 1999's BIG DADDY.

LIAM NEESON and JENNIFER LOPEZ from MAID IN MANHATTAN (2002).

SARAH JESSICA PARKER, KRISTIN DAVIS, and CYNTHIA NIXON from the 2008 movie SEX IN THE CITY.

From the 2001 movie VANILLA SKY - TOM CRUISE . . . .

. . .and PENELOPE CRUZ.

A very well know scene filmed here came in KRAMER vs KRAMER in 1979. DUSTIN HOFFMAN, a divorced dad, has to share his son, played by JUSTIN HENRY with his wife . . . .

. . .Merrill Streep, who had walked ot on the family years before.

Now we are going to turn around and walk back toward the roadway over the Arcade. This is a picture of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN from his laterst album taken here.

This is what it will look like from the area in front of the Bandshell.

And this is what the pathway looks like as you get closer to the road.

And here we are at the road.

As we cross the road, here is where the final scene from 2012's THE AVENGERS takes place. That's ROBERT DOWNEY JR on the right.

Here's a Close-up of Loki - TOM HIDDLESTON and Thor - CHRIS HEMSWORTH.

In this shot, SCARLETT JOHANSSON and JEREMY RENNER are on the left.

Now walk to the railing over the terrace and look toward the fountain.

If you look down, you can see where the album cover for a 1963 HARRY BELAFONTE album was shot.

Here's a cloose up of the album, entitled STREETS I HAVE WALKED which came out in 1963. HIs biggest hits included DAY-O and JAMAICA FAREWELL and his movies included ISLAND IN THE SUN and UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT.

The famous poet and writer SYLVIA PLATH, who wrote THE BELL JAR, seen here on a book cover, was also photographed on the terrace in 1953 when she was 21 years old.

Sylvia Plath is the woman on the top of the star. The women were all contest winners for Mademoiselle Magazine. The prize was a summer internship at the magazine. The winners were photographed here each year.

Now walk over to the steps on your right.

As we go down the steps to the terrace, we will pass where JOHN TRAVOLTA was filmed wIth FIONA HUGHES in STAYING ALIVE from 1983. It was the sequal to SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER.

This is a picture of the cult singer DAVID PEEL singing on the steps in 1969. DAVID PEEL AND THE LOWER EAST SIDE who were a backup band for John Lennon when he moved to New York. David Peel's big song was called "Have a Marijuana."

And a little further down the steps here is SARAH JESSICA PARKER in a photo taken while she was filming the movie SEX AND THE CITY.

Here's another view, with her co-star CHRIS NOTH (Mr. BIG).

At the bottom of the steps, on the right; Here is a picture of a man named Jacob Wray Mould. When they made Central Park around the time of the Civil War, he was the man who designed all the little sandstone birds on the terrace and the owl and witch we saw earlier.. He was hired by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux ("Vox") who designed the park.

Now, continue to the right of the fountain. And then stop near the fountain.

Here's an ad for Woody Allen's MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY movie featuring the fountain.

Here's a scene from BROAD CITY starring ABBI JACOBSEN and ILANA GLAZER from 2014.

And on the balustrade next to the water, here's the album cover for SAM THE SHAM AND THE PHARAOHS ON TOUR from 1965. Their big hits were WOOLY BULLY (1965) and LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD (1966).

Here's a close-up of the album.

Continue up the path toward the Boathouse.

When you reach the top of the hill, look towards the lake. Here is a picture of the rock group CREAM rowing in the lake. It was taken in 1968 as a publicity shot. They are from left to right: ERIC CLAPTON, GINGER BAKER, and JACK BRUCE. Their hits were: CROSSROADS, SPOONFUL, and SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE.

The tall building with the two towers in back of them is the San Remo apartments. Bono lives on the 27th floor of the north tower (the right one) in an apartment he bought from Steve Jobs. Dustin Hoffman, Diane Keaton, and rock star Billy Squier ("Rock Me Tonight," "Lonely is the Night") live or have lived there.

In season, you can rent rowboats by the hour. There are about 100 rowboats boats. They can hold up to four people each.

Here's a picture of Jackie Kennedy rowing her kids Carolyn and John-John on the lake in 1964.

They also have one gondola, seen here in blue. The Loeb Boathouse is in the back. It has a bar, a pricey restaurant, and a snack bar.

A private gondola ride costs $50 a half hour. When they were brought to the lake in 1986 (2 were brought), the Park flew in two professional Italian gondoliers from Venice, Italy, to teach the Americans how to paddle and steer them with one oar.

We are now approaching the Loeb Boathouse. It used to look like this.

A scene from THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962) took place on a short pier that used to be here. The scene is of LAURENCE HARVEY punching FRANK SINATRA in the stomach.

Here's the entrance to the Boathouse. (There's a public bathroom to the right.)

The outdoor patio looks like this.

Several movies were filmed in the Loeb Boathouse. . . Here's a scene from WHERE HARRY MET SALLY (1989) with, from left to right, CARRIE FISHER, MEG RYAN, and LISA PERSKY.

And here's ED BURNS and KATHERINE HEGEL from 27 DRESSES from 2008.

There was a famous scene from SEX IN THE CITY, from 2009, where SARAH JESSICA PARKER AND MR. BIG (CHRIS NOTH) fall backward into the water . . . . . First she see's him on the dock. . .

Then they talk. He tries to kiss her but she has promised her friends she would not kiss him so she backs away.

She loses balance and grabs him, and they both go into the water.

. . . which is about four feet deep.

In February, 1964, 3 of the BEATLES posed on the same dock on their first vist to America. George was sick that day.

Here's another angle of the Beatles on the dock.

Here they are giving big Beatles smiles!

Now walk around to the front of the Boathouse. You'll see a patio with a small stature of a man and a woman in a rowboat. Those are the Loebs, who paid for the Boathouse..

Now turn and walk toward the road.

Once again we see the Beatles posing again on a Central Park horse carriage, from that 60's photoshoot.

Now cross the road over the "Abbey Road" type stripes.

We will be heading down the path toward the small pond known as Conservatory Water - as a glass conservatory was once supposed to be built here. Most people call it the MODEL SAILBOAT POND.

As you walk down, you'll see a small grass triangle with a STREET LAMP. Stay to the LEFT. After about 20 feet, take a RIGHT onto the next path.

You should end up next to a large bronze statue of the MAN reading a GIANT BOOK.

The statue we have come to is of the children's author HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN, who came from Denmark. He wrote the fairy tales: THE LITTLE MERMAID, THUMBELIA, and THE EMPEROR's NEW CLOTHES. His hat is off, and he is reading from his book THE UGLY DUCKLING. A bronze duck listens. . . . Kids are engouraged to sit on the statue.

When the BEATLES came to New York in 1968, Paul MCartney and John Lennon posed here with their assistants "Magic Alex" Mardas and Neil Aspinall.

Now turn and walk toward the pond..

This is the man-made pond where STUART LITTLE drives his speed boat in the E. B. White book from 1945 - and later, the movie.

The boathouse is where enthusiasts store their model sailboats. Some can be rented in season.

Many other films have been shot here on the boat pond: Here's JENNIFER GARNER having an ice cream in 13 GOING ON 30 (2004).

RYAN O'NEILL and CANDICE BERGEN from 1978's OLIVER'S STORY (the sequel to LOVE STORY).

BEN MASTERS and BROOKE ADAMS from KEY EXCHANGE (1985).

The two kids from LITTLE MANHATTAN (2005).

And near the far end, TIM ALLEN and SAM HUNTINGTON from JUNGLE 2 JUNGLE (1997).

Now as you face the pond, take a left and walk past the far end of the pond. You will see a large bronze mushroom in the distance. It's The ALICE IN WONDERLAND STATUE.

Here it is as we approach it.

The ALICE IN WONDERLAND STATUE was built in 1959. Once again, kids are encouraged to play all over it.

The characters, from left to right include: The WHITE RABBIT (the one the Jefferson Airplane song is named after) holding a large pocket watch . . .

. . . THE CHESHIRE CAT . . .

. . . ALICE, herself, with her cat Dinah on her lap . . .

. . . The DORMOUSE (a form of mouse with a furry tail) . . .

. . . And the MAD HATTER in a top hat and bow tie.

The Mad Hatter is a charicature of the George Delacorte, pictured here. He was a major patron of the park, and namesake of the Delacortet Theater in the park and Delacourt clock in the Zoo. He made his fortune founding Dell Books, Dell Magazines, and Dell Comics.

in 1967 Linda Eastman, later to marry PAUL McCARTNEY, took pictures of THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE sitting on the statue. From left to right they are NOEL REDDING, JIMI HENDRIX, and MITCH MITCHELL.

Here's another view.

Later, jazzman LARRY CORYELL posed here with his group.

Still later a scene from FACTORY GIRL has GUY PEARCE, playing ANDY WARHOL, making a film of EDIE SEDGEWICK, played by SIENNA MILLER, here.

Here's ROBERT PATTISON and RUBY JERKINS (his sister in the film) in REMEMBER ME from 2010.

And JEFF BRIDGES and BARBRA STREISAND from THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES (1996).

And that concludes your Central Park PopSpots tour. Hope you liked it. We basically followed the red line on this park map.

As you can see, if you walk past the pond and up the hill and take a left you will end up at 72nd and FIfth Avenue. (I'll show you how to get there in pictures down below.)

You can take the bus there down 5th Ave to midtown, or walk over to Lexington Ave and 68th Steet and take the subway to see more of New York. Thanks for walkin' and rockin" together!

P.S - But before you go, here's an enlargeable Google Map that shows the paths we walked on a little differently. You can click on the map to enlarge it.

P.P.S. One last music photo. If you walk to 5th Avenue and 72nd, then walk along the park to between 68th and 69th Street, you will come to where this photo of Bob Dylan was taken by Richard Avendon in 1965.

Here's a sequence of shots you can follow to take you from the Alice in Wonderland statue, past the Boathouse and up to FIfth Avenue.

Voila!
